It's snow, it's snow, and off to work I go!

6:50am - there's a haze of freshly fallen snow.
*
Luckily roads were warm enough to melt off the new snow, plus plows were out. So my drive was OK! But after a warm-up (in the 40's yesterday!) it's going to be brrrr-y cold tonight. Oh joy! (sarcasm)

As I type this, I'm looking out my 2nd floor classroom window, which overlooks a flat roof on part of the school. The snow on the roof is right up to my windowsill. There's enough snow to go sledding on the roof, or maybe I could just step out to make a snowman! Since the sky is basically grayish white today too, as snow keeps on drifting down, it's a world without contrast outside. I opened the window and tried to take some pictures, but... they're basically all just white, and pale grays. Not worth taking the time to load them up for you to see them. Blah.

  3. Funny you should mention, sledding off the roof. The teach (Art) in a district east of Syracuse in hills of Madison County. As the music teacher, the Librarian, and I were eating lunch one of the Aides came in and said I wish they wouldn't sled and snowboard like that while the kids can see them from the Playground. We looked out and there were some young men throwing their sled and a snow board up on a garage roof and coming down. We were like not a great idea, that is even with the snow it is about 10-12 feet off the ground, the Aide looked and said actually they were coming off HOUSE before it is a 2 story.

Side note we tried to look at the playground that can be usually be seen, from there, there is an 8 foot chain link fence, which is totally covered with snow banks piled up from clearing the parking lot.

  5. Mr. E, still getting more snow?!

Kelly, my son is in college in Rochester so for a while I was checking snowfall and there's a blog that compares snow totals for the major cities in the state called "The Golden Snowball Award" and Syracuse is the clear leader. You guys are definitely the snowiest place in the state! Congrats, I guess!!

  6. It seems as if each week here is getting colder and colder!! Still not as much snow as compared to the rest of the nation though- and they give Buffalo such a bad rep!

  7. OH MY GOSH ERICA !!!!! Thank you for letting me know!!! I just checked facebook and had to scroll through a mile of nonsense before I saw the post about the construction paper. I would have totally missed it without your comment. THANK YOU, ERICA, and THANK YOU PACON! I totally forgot about even entering, and don't remember who sent the link to enter. I'm totally caught by surprise - I never win anything!!

  8. Oh! And I went to school at SU... and NO ONE seemed to tell me how bad the snow was there!! Everyone was always saying Buffalo is the worst... but Syracuse definitely takes the cake! (Phyl, you and I are posting responses at the same time! - what are the odds?!)

  9. YEp, Syracuse is buried! WAY too much snow! I'm so sick of it. Tonight was a terrible drive, but I still hade 30 families come out to our school to make a bowl together!! Such a positive night! LOVE to see them come out to make art with their children! It was amazing!

  11. There will definitely be a celebration post, after I talk to Pacon tomorrow (it was too late when I called - I need to call during business hours).
As for all the snow posts, we are a hardy bunch, aren't we?! I think it's funny that a post about the weather generates more comments than one with art lessons! It has so affected all our lives, I guess.

  13. Wild weather here too, Phyl. My little car did not make it up the mountain yesterday--first time ever. Looks like we got a half a foot of slush yesterday and now it's all turned into ice.
I'm dreaming of getting out of these big boot and into sandals.
I added the lanterns to my last post for you. Cute and easy.
    Congratulations on the paper!
